| Question: Do you recommend anything for cradle cap on a 3 month old? The Internet suggests olive oil - would a carrier oil such as almond be better? Herbalist: A little olive oil may be worth a try in softening and reducing cradle cap on scalp surface and believe is generally recommended in preference to sweet almond oil as readily available and also as carries no risk regards nut allergies. Be aware though that the yellow scales, simply due to excess sebum production that gradually evens itself out naturally, are underneath as well as on top of skin and so picking at the scales must be avoided or you'll end up with unsightly bald and red sore skin at potential risk from infection. Using a tiny smear of chemical free baby shampoo (see herbtalk link below) ever other day while in the bath is often helpful by simply drying out excess oil on scalp which makes cradle cap less noticable especially if some hair coming through.
